THE PROGRAM.
Fly for fun, or make it a career. No matter your goals, we have everything you need to get your passion off the ground.
PRIVATE PILOT
Whether it’s a first step towards flying commercially, or a lifelong wish waiting to be granted, your FAA Private Pilot Certificate is your gateway to the skies.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
The minimum number of flight hours required to receive your certificate is 40, with a national average of 75. So why the disparity? Well, flying is tough. In order to join the less than 1% of the US population’s legion of pilots, you’ll need a dedicated instructor, a well-maintained aircraft, and a bit of tenacity. Legion Air has the first two covered. Our experienced instructors are committed to providing personalized training tailored to your learning pace, ensuring you build the confidence and competence needed to excel. Our fleet of meticulously maintained aircraft guarantees a safe and reliable training environment, so you can focus on mastering your skills.
INSTRUMENT RATING
Your license to cloud surf. A complex and sophisticated world of publications and procedures awaits you as you take on your biggest battle yet, Instrument Flight Rules. For those who want to be less limited when flying for fun and those who are looking to make the transition into a career in commercial air travel.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Flying a plane without being able to see what’s happening around you is high-stakes: That’s why the FAA has a required course of training you must receive before taking your plunge into the clouds on your own. During this phase of training you’ll build Pilot in Command (PIC), Simulated Instrument, and Cross-Country flight time with the help of our CFIIs (Certified Flight Instructor Instrument). Our number one goal at Legion Air is training to a higher standard —with us, you won’t just be ready to pass a checkride at the end of this phase, you’ll be confident and proficient in the art of instrument flight.
COMMERCIAL PILOT
Your Gateway to the Skies. Embrace the challenge of mastering the advanced skills and knowledge required to earn your commercial pilot certificate. This certification opens the door to professional aviation, allowing you to take your passion for flying to new heights. Whether you're looking to refine your abilities for more complex flights or aspiring to transition into a career as a commercial pilot, this is your next big step.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Preparing for your commercial pilot certificate is an intensive and rewarding journey. Our training syllabus will guarantee you’re equipped with the skills and knowledge for professional flight operations. Throughout this phase, you'll gain extensive Pilot in Command (PIC) experience, enhance your navigation and flight precision, and undertake challenging cross-country missions. With Legion Air you'll develop the expertise needed to excel in commercial aviation.
FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR
Unlock Your Potential in the Skies. Embrace the journey of acquiring the expertise and proficiency needed to achieve your flight instructor and/or flight instructor instrument certificate. This certification marks a pivotal achievement in aviation, empowering you to share your love for flying while advancing your career.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Being a responsible, safe and effective flight instructor is a difficult task, for good reason. Through both our CFI and CFII programs we aim to put you in the preverbal drivers seat so that you’re ready for any and every eventuality that could arise with a student. In this phase you’ll learn the fundamentals of instructing and build skills both in the classroom and aircraft to help craft student’s into safe and proficient pilots.

THE LEGIONNAIRES.
CARL STORCKMAN
CO-FOUNDER
CFI, CFII & MEI
I’m Carl Storckman. My aviation journey started in the summer of 2020 with a intro flight over the Catskill mountains in New York. That’s when I knew, flying was what I wanted to do. I packed up and made the long trip from the woods of the Hudson Valley to the desert valley of Phoenix Arizona. My career as a flight instructor took me from teaching private, instrument and commercial pilots, to running a nation wide ground school, to teaching CFI applicants and ultimately a position as Chief Flight Instructor.
With over 1600 hours in fixed wing aircraft and over 2000 hours of aviation ground instruction taught, I have learned key fundamentals needed to be successful in aviation training. My love for seeing new pilots earn their wings has now lead me to being a co-founder of Legion Air. Our goal is to create aviators. Someone that when the weather turns, instruments fail, or the situation seems impossible, has the skills, and capability to overcome and demonstrate why they are pilot in command.
MATTHEW HULME
CO-FOUNDER
CFI & CFII
I'm Matthew Hulme, and my passion for aviation runs deep, rooted in a family legacy spanning four generations and five pilots, including myself. Since beginning my flight training in 2015, I've embraced every aspect of aviation with unwavering enthusiasm. Throughout my journey, I've had the privilege of piloting a diverse range of aircraft, from historic gems like the North American T-6 to modern favorites like the Carbon Cub XCub and NXcub.
My experience extends across various models such as the Citabria, Cessna 170, and familiar workhorses like the 172 and Cherokee 180. Each aircraft has enriched my understanding and skillset, contributing to my goal as an instructor: not only to develop proficient pilots but to instill a commitment to safety above all else.
Aviation isn't just a career path for me; it's a lifelong passion nurtured by my family's aviation heritage. As I continue my journey, I look forward to sharing my knowledge and love for flying with others, ensuring each student I teach becomes not just a pilot, but a safe and skilled aviator.
MAX NORRIS
CO-FOUNDER
CFI
I’m an Oregon kid roughing it in the warm skies of Arizona. This has proved to be easier said than done after two-and-a-half decades of acclimatization to overcast days and rain showers. I made the 2,000 mile journey south for the same reason I helped found Legion Air. I love aviation.
I wasn’t ‘bitten’ by the ‘flying-bug’ at birth and it wasn’t something that happened overnight, though. I was raised by an amazing, pilot grandmother who taught me to love the skies like I do. That’s why I teach: the wholehearted belief that sharing the flight deck with a student, a private pilot or an airline captain is an expression of the same giving spirit my grandma still has.
I’ve trained at or worked for every kind of flight school you can imagine, from the Mom & Pops to big box career track schools. Getting to be a part of each one of these operations has taught me a multitude of valuable lessons — lessons that have informed how we created Legion Air and the caliber of pilots we are determined to produce. I look forward to flying with you and helping you achieve your aviation goals, better, at Legion Air.
