THE FOUNDERS
CARL STORCKMAN
CO-FOUNDER
CFI, CFII & MEI
CFI Initial Instructor
I’m Carl Storckman. My aviation journey started in the summer of 2020 with a intro flight over the Catskill mountains in New York. That’s when I knew, flying was what I wanted to do. I packed up and made the long trip from the woods of the Hudson Valley to the desert valley of Phoenix Arizona. My career as a flight instructor took me from teaching private, instrument and commercial pilots, to running a nation wide ground school, to teaching CFI applicants and ultimately a position as Chief Flight Instructor.
With over 2000 hours in fixed wing aircraft and over 2500 hours of aviation ground instruction taught, I have learned key fundamentals needed to be successful in aviation training. My love for seeing new pilots earn their wings has now lead me to being a co-founder of Legion Air. Our goal is to create aviators. Someone that when the weather turns, instruments fail, or the situation seems impossible, will have the skills, and capability to overcome and demonstrate why they are pilot in command.
MATTHEW HULME
CO-FOUNDER
CFI & CFII
CFI Initial Instructor
I'm Matthew Hulme, and my passion for aviation runs deep, rooted in a family legacy spanning four generations and five pilots, including myself. Since beginning my flight training in 2015, I've embraced every aspect of aviation with unwavering enthusiasm. Throughout my journey, I've had the privilege of piloting a diverse range of aircraft, from historic gems like the North American T-6 to modern favorites like the Carbon Cub XCub and NXcub.
My experience extends across various models such as the Citabria, Cessna 170, and familiar workhorses like the 172 and Cherokee 180. Each aircraft has enriched my understanding and skillset, contributing to my goal as an instructor: not only to develop proficient pilots but to instill a commitment to safety above all else.
Aviation isn't just a career path for me; it's a lifelong passion nurtured by my family's aviation heritage. As I continue my journey, I look forward to sharing my knowledge and love for flying with others, ensuring each student I teach becomes not just a pilot, but a safe and skilled aviator.
THE TEAM
Toni Grimes Co-Owner
CFI CFII
I'm Toni Grimes, a certified flight instructor with a long time dream of teaching others. I knew I would be in aviation in some capacity but it wasn't until the chance at a second career where I took on flying full time! While I am a Falcon Field native, most of my training was done in the challenging yet beautiful skies of northern Minnesota. I have a deep love for cross country flying and I have developed a sincere appreciation for both the technical and disciplined aspects of flying. I love sharing my knowledge and experiences with students, guiding them through every step of their journey in the cockpit. I am dedicated, patient and goal oriented because I want you to become a confident, well-rounded and strong pilot.
Kyle Johnson
CFI
Hi, I’m Kyle from Bloomington, IL.
My excitement for aviation started young like many others. Once a year either the Thunderbirds or Blue Angels would come to my area and it was my favorite thing to go watch. In 2020, I finally pulled the trigger to do my first flight lesson at a small uncontrolled field and have never looked back! I was able to get my solo done and decided I needed some better weather.
My future wife and I were debating Arizona or Florida to commit fully to my training and when we visited the desert, we loved it. We made the move out here in July of 2021 and I got my CFI in July of 2023. I still enjoy every time I get back on the ground after a long day and be able to say that I fly for a living.
Jennifer De Polo
Hi I’m Jennifer!
I’m a CFI CFII MEI who has extensive flying experience in Arizona and Florida. My aviation Journey started in 2022 flying with my friends around the south Phoenix area. I knew this was for me instantly and Instantly started researching flight schools. After completing my ratings at ATP I started teaching at UND at Mesa Gateway. With experience in teaching both pt 61 students and part 141 students, I’ve learned the value of a structured learning environment as well as the importance of flexibility found in the 61 world. I take pride in being able to give my students the room they need to grow and explore while still laying out clear expectations for the flight lessons to be completed in the future. I love aviation and there is nothing better than the adventure of flying to destinations and heights you’ve never been to!

Hi I’m Dalton!
I’m a CFI with Legion Air, originally from Greensboro, NC. Ever since I took my first flight with American Airlines a decade ago, I knew I wanted to be a pilot. I finally started my flight training in 2023 over in Albuquerque, NM. From there I moved back to Phoenix to finish out my commercial and CFI certificates. As a previous construction superintendent for a general contractor, I’m focused on safety, schedule, and the details for your flight training.
